In 1996, IPR acquired the first color aerial photographs of the whole of Prague, which were then processed and used throughout the organization. Due to the high demand for up-to-date data, the frame rate was gradually reduced. From 1999 to 2006, only half of Prague was imaged, and since 2007, the whole of Prague and its immediate surroundings (approx. 660 km2) have been imaged periodically every year.

Currently, aerial photography is carried out twice a year. We can therefore compare the image of Prague full of green treetops with a map from the off-vegetation season. This will reveal more about things otherwise hidden under greenery or shaded by vegetation. Gradually, thanks to more modern technologies, the resolution of maps and their positional accuracy also improved.

Since 2021, we have been acquiring extra-vegetation orthophotomaps in very detailed resolution with a constant pixel size of 0.05 m and high-quality color resolution. Together with a number of vegetation orthophotos, we have also been deriving the so-called true orthophoto (right/perpendicular projection of all objects) since 2019, which eliminates the obscured areas caused by the inclination of above-ground objects in the classic orthophoto.
