Geology

The Geology group in the Environmental Atlas contains historical geological maps, seepage maps and a map of geological indicators.

Geological indicators show the categorization of the radon index of the area, an overview of geological units based on the Radon Index Map prepared for IPR Prague in 2010 at a scale of 1 : 25 000. The service also includes elements of deposit protection and geological risks (provided by the Czech Geological Service - Geofund, and the District Mining Office Prague).

Engineering geological maps give the user the opportunity to look beneath the surface of Prague. Scanned drawings of detailed engineering geological mapping that took place in Prague from 1969 to the end of the 20th century (some of the map sheets were updated after 2007) are available online. There are 4 types of drawings available to the user - a geological map, a map of cover formations, a map of hydrogeological conditions and a map of documentation points. It also includes a legend and a link to the IPR Prague research room, where it is possible to view the map sheet with additional information about its acquisition.

Seepage maps were created on the basis of engineering geological maps (maps of geological conditions and maps of hydrogeological conditions) for the Prague City Hall in 2021 at a scale of 1: 5000. These maps provide initial information on the possibility of infiltration of rainwater in the area. The map presents the area of Prague categorized in terms of surface and subsoil seepage capacity, areas suitable for deep seepage and areas with oscillating groundwater levels. The protection zones of water sources are also shown.
