A unified information system that helps navigate public transport, aids pedestrian navigation and conveys information about the immediate surroundings. The graphic-design competition for the 2022 implementation was won by the Side2 studio in cooperation with A69 architects with the concept A Readable Prague.

A key part of the system is the new navigation elements in the metro and the tags and digital panels at surface transport stops with departure times. The system should enable comfortable transfers between buses and PIT train lines, for example.

Pedestrian navigation will include directions to important destinations or landmarks. In addition, completely new elements called obelisks, used in other metropolises, will appear on the streets of Prague. The obelisks will stand, for example, at important transport hubs. The main part of the obelisk will be a map with the nearest surroundings accessible on foot within 5 minutes.

Maps of the surrounding area are processed from IPR data according to the manual of the Side2 graphic design studio. The map is at a scale of 1:2000. Entrances to the metro are clearly marked with a number, individual platforms of surface transport stops with a letter. Timetables are already working with this distinction so that passengers are always sure of exactly where their connection is coming from. The map is supplemented with new pictograms of tourist destinations.

From the second half of 2022, the system will be tested on Palacký Square and Palmovka, followed by Háje. A public inquiry into the functionality of the system and the processing of comments is underway. The new system will then be gradually deployed to other sites, depending on construction projects and routine maintenance.

The obelisk design

<![endif]--> The project of the Unified Information System is organized by ROPIT, the working group also includes representatives of the Transport Company, the Institute of Planning and Development, the Technical Administration of Roads, Prague City Tourism, the ICT Operator and selected departments of the Prague City Hall.
